Stop counting calories. Start tracking insulin pings.

Every time you eat, snack, or drink calories, your body responds — we call that a Ping. PingDiet is a simple intermittent fasting method designed to help you reduce unnecessary eating events, extend your fasting window, and build an eating schedule you can actually stick with.

The whole idea, in one picture

Every eating event is a Ping.

Not just meals. Coffee with milk is a Ping. Three almonds is a Ping. A splash of juice is a Ping. Most people are not overeating so much as eating constantly — and a day with seven Pings in it has no real fasting window left anywhere inside it.

Fewer Pings. Longer fasting windows. Simpler eating.

You have probably already tried fasting. It probably fell apart around day four.

Not because you lacked discipline. By mid-afternoon your head hurt, your energy was gone, and the only thing you could think about was food. So you ate, felt like you had failed, and quietly stopped.

It almost always comes down to the same two things.

Problem #1

You picked a fasting window you could not sustain.

Sixteen hours on day one, from a standing start, is not a plan — it is a test you were set up to fail. The window that works is the one you can repeat on an ordinary Wednesday, not the one that sounds impressive on day one.

Problem #2

You had nothing supporting you during the fasting window.

Sixteen hours without food is also sixteen hours without the sodium, potassium and magnesium you normally get from meals. The headache, the fog and the shakiness are what that feels like, and they arrive right on schedule at hour fourteen.

PingDiet was designed around fixing those two problems.

The 3-Step PingDiet Method

1

Choose Your Window

Start at 12:12 and move to 14:10, then 16:8 as it gets easy. The window you keep beats the window that impresses you. Consistency is the whole mechanism.

2

Protect Your Fast

Water, black coffee, plain tea and zero-calorie electrolytes keep the Ping count at zero. Sugar, milk and creamers do not. Most people who quit were not weak — they were dehydrated.

3

Break Your Fast Intentionally

25–40g of protein with fiber and healthy fats. Eggs and avocado, Greek yogurt and berries, salmon and vegetables. Your first Ping of the day sets how the rest of it goes.

That's PingDiet. No complicated meal plan. No calorie-counting obsession.

A real day on PingDiet

One 16:8 window, three Pings, nothing exotic. This is what it looks like on a Tuesday.

7:00

Wake — no Ping

Water. Black coffee or plain tea if you want it. Nothing with calories in it.

10:00

The wobble — still no Ping

This is the hour people quit. Electrolytes and more water, not food.

12:00

Ping 1 — break the fast

Protein first. Eggs and avocado, or Greek yogurt and berries. The window opens.

15:00

Ping 2 — optional

If you are genuinely hungry, eat. If you are bored, that is not a Ping worth spending.

18:30

Ping 3 — dinner

A normal dinner. Protein, vegetables, fats. Nothing weighed, nothing logged.

20:00

Window closes

Kitchen shut. The next sixteen hours are the fast, and most of them you spend asleep.

Why I created PingDiet

I fly for a living. Time zones, 4am report times, airport food at whatever hour I can get to it — an eating schedule built around three meals at sensible times was never going to survive contact with my week.

Intermittent fasting was the first thing that made sense to me, because it is about when you eat rather than what you weigh out. But every version of it I found assumed a normal day. Sixteen and eight, on the clock, every day. That is easy advice to give and very hard to follow at 35,000 feet.

So I stopped thinking in hours and started counting eating events. Pings. On a long duty day I might only get two, and that turned out to be fine — better than fine. The window took care of itself once the Pings came down.

That is the whole method, and it is written down here for free because it cost me nothing to learn beyond a few years of getting it wrong.

Questions people ask

What is PingDiet?

PingDiet is an intermittent fasting method built around counting eating events rather than counting calories. You reduce the number of times you eat in a day, which lengthens the gap between the first and last one, and you break the fast deliberately instead of by accident. There is nothing to buy and nothing to weigh.

What is an insulin ping?

A Ping is any eating event — a meal, a snack, or a drink with calories in it. Each one prompts a response from your body, including the release of insulin. Counting Pings is simply a plain-English way of noticing how often that happens, which for most people is far more often than they think.

Is PingDiet the same as intermittent fasting?

PingDiet is a way of doing intermittent fasting. The fasting part is identical — you eat within a window and not outside it. What differs is how you get there: instead of watching the clock, you reduce the number of eating events, and the longer window follows on its own.

How many Pings should I aim for?

Two or three a day suits most people. If you are currently at six or seven, dropping to four is real progress and worth doing before you attempt anything stricter.

Is intermittent fasting safe for beginners?

For most healthy adults, starting with a gentle 12:12 window is safe and effective, moving to 14:10 or 16:8 as it feels easy. Do not fast if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, have a history of disordered eating, or take medication that lowers blood sugar — speak to a doctor first.

Do coffee, tea or electrolytes break a fast?

Water, black coffee, plain tea and zero-calorie electrolytes are generally fine during the fast and do not count as a Ping. Drinks with sugar, milk or creamers add calories and do.

What actually counts as a Ping?

Anything with calories in it. A meal, a handful of nuts, a latte, a spoonful of something while you cook. Black coffee, plain tea, water and zero-calorie electrolytes do not count.

Do I need OPA Fast supplements to follow PingDiet?

No. The method is a pattern of when you eat and it costs nothing to follow. The products on this page support the parts people find hardest — hydration during the fast and steady energy around it — but nothing here depends on them.

How do I start without feeling miserable?

Progress gradually from 12:12 to 14:10 to 16:8, front-load hydration and electrolytes, and keep the first meal protein-first with fiber and healthy fats. Consistency beats intensity.

What should I eat when I break the fast?

Protein first — 25 to 40 grams — with fiber and healthy fats alongside. Eggs and avocado, Greek yogurt and berries, salmon and vegetables. Breaking a fast on refined carbohydrates tends to produce the spike and crash that makes the next day harder.

Can I do PingDiet on shift work or an irregular schedule?

Yes, and it is part of why the method counts events rather than hours. A fixed 16:8 window assumes a fixed day. If your days are not fixed, aim for two or three Pings whenever they fall and let the window land where it lands.

Can I exercise while fasting?

Many people train fasted without difficulty, particularly lower-intensity sessions. Keep hydration and electrolytes up, and if you feel light-headed, stop and eat. If you have a medical condition or take medication, ask a doctor before training in a fasted state.

How long until I see results?

Most people notice steadier energy and fewer cravings within 1–2 weeks. Changes in body composition take longer and depend on the total picture — sleep, activity and what you eat in the window, not only the window itself. Individual results vary.

The method is free. The bottles are optional.

Pick a window, count your Pings, and start tomorrow. It costs nothing and there is nothing to sign up for. If the hard parts turn out to be hydration and the hour-fourteen wobble, the Fast Series is there.
